What Is iCloud Lock (Activation Lock)?

iCloud Lock — officially called Activation Lock — is Apple's anti-theft feature. When Find My iPhone is enabled, the device is tied to your Apple ID. No one can set it up or use it without the Apple ID credentials that locked it.

This is great for theft deterrence. It's a problem if you forget to remove it before selling.

Why iCloud Lock Affects Your Sale

A phone that arrives iCloud locked cannot be resold, repaired, or repurposed. We cannot pay for an iCloud-locked device — not because we don't want to, but because there's no legitimate use for a locked iPhone in the secondary market.

If your phone arrives locked, we'll contact you to request removal. Once you confirm removal remotely, we process payment. But it adds 1–3 days.

How to Remove iCloud Lock Before Shipping

If the iPhone is in your possession and working:

1. Go to Settings → [your name]
2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Sign Out
3. Enter your Apple ID password
4. Tap Turn Off for "Find My iPhone"
5. Tap Sign Out and confirm

The phone is now activation-lock-free. Do a factory reset (Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Erase All Content and Settings) and ship.

If the iPhone won't turn on:

1. Go to icloud.com on a computer or another device

• Apple Support: If you have proof of purchase (original receipt with serial number), Apple may help unlock. Not guaranteed.
